I think the saying is “onwards and upwards” which I think is a good quote to use for the new Aeon Station track “Queens.” Aeon Station of course is the new project from Kevin Whelan of The Wrens and their new album is Observatory that will be out December 10th via Sub Pop Records.
Essentially Whelan could wait no longer on Wrens other vocalist/songwriter Charles Bissell’s participation on a new Wrens record so this 10-track album came together carefully for Whelan, over the course of 14 years, specifically, as clusters of demos and sketches. These were eventually assembled and recorded largely by Whelan himself, with assistance from Wrens’ bandmates Jerry MacDonald and Greg Whelan, as well as Tom Beaujour in his Union City recording space. Additionally, his wife Mary Ann provided backup vocals.
