This Friday, October 22, Clinic will release their ninth album, their most electronic and pop record yet: Fantasy Island, transporting listeners to tropical climes and other dimensions. Following videos for album tracks “Fine Dining”, “Fantasy Island”, and a cover of Ann Peebles’ “I Can’t Stand The Rain”, today the band share a last preview, sprawling track “Refractions (In The Rain).”
“Refractions” nods to the Human League with its strident synthesizer lines, danceable beats, and Clinic’s signature groovy, swaggering menace, as the singer growls, “Take us into the future say the people that play the music.” At the fore are the new additions to Clinic’s sonic palette: an acid bass machine, a 1970s cocktail rhythm unit, a Casio digital horn, and space drum.
