TFN is coming at you this week with three strong artists we think you will really like. Jangly guitar indie pop from Spain is a must, the ambitious and experimental sounds from Boston and finally some modern surf out of Long Beach. Discover, Support, Share!
Melenas
Pamplona, Spain
Indie pop quartet Melenas hail from Pamplona, Spain, and have just released their sophomore record Dias Raros. The band has landed on Trouble In Mind Records which is the first label outside of Spain to release Melenas music worldwide. What Europe already knows is that Melenas can rock out as they have already played at national festivals like Primavera Sound & Eurosonic delivering their garage-pop punch with a catchy surf guitar jangle that grooves and reminds me of La Luz. Dias Raros is in Spanish but don’t be afraid of the language barrier because when their perfectly sequenced cascading voices, organ and waves of guitar all come together – indie rock is indie rock!

Bad History Month
Boston, Massachusetts
Bad History Month is the project of Boston songwriter Sean Sprecher, who has been a fixture of East Coast DIY scenes for the better part of a decade. Despite his sporadic disappearances, name changes and general aversion to attention the first full length under this moniker (2017’s Dead and Loving It) got some quality attention. Old Blues is his recently released LP on Exploding In Sound Records, which takes Spreacher’s talents to a new level as he balances being ambitiously experimental with a catchy singer/songwriter story telling style that will give you the David Berman, Bonnie “Prince” Billy and Bill Callahan vibe. If you are looking for something just a bit different, Bad History Month could be your new obsession.

Tijuana Panthers
Long Beach, California
The Tijuana Panthers have such a smooth California surf guitar sound that their new EP, Pull The Chute, makes you feel like you are in Long Beach with them. What I like about the Tijuana Panthers is that their music has this sunny warmth to it but an undertone of grit that would fit along with bands like Thee Oh Sees or Parquet Courts. It is that tight musicianship that makes these five tracks on the EP roll by quickly and have you wanting more. Pull The Chute is officially out tomorrow (May 8) via Innovative Leisure, so make sure you hop over to their Bandcamp page and check out this modern surf ride.
